4 Navajo presidential forums taking place in June

June 8, 2022 at 1:30pm MDT

Navajo-interest groups wasted no time stacking June with Navajo Nation presidential candidate forums led by last week's Northern Agency Veterans' Organization forum on June 3. The three remaining forums will be hosted by Navajo Technical University, Change Labs/Dineh Chamber of Commerce/The ACES School, and Diné College.

June 2022 presidential forums:

  • June 3, 2022 (4pm MDT) - Navajo Nation Presidential Candidates Forum, Henderson Fine Arts Building, San Juan College, Farmington, N.M. hosted by the Northern Agency Veterans' Organization (Event ended)
  • June 14, 2022 (6pm MDT) - Navajo Nation Presidential Forum, NTU Wellness Center, Navajo Technical University, Crownpoint, N.M. hosted by Navajo Technical University
  • June 21, 2022 (5pm) - Presidential Forum on the Navajo Economy (FEE/TICKETED EVENT), Twin Arrows Casino, Leupp (Flagstaff), AZ hosted by Change Labs, Dineh Chamber of Commerce, The ACES School
  • June 28, 2022 (5pm) - 2022 Navajo Nation Presidential Forum, Diné College, Tsaile, AZ hosted by Diné College (Tentative)

Currently, there are 15 Navajo Nation presidential candidates in the running for the upcoming Navajo Nation primary election on August 2. The top two vote getters in August will be placed on the November general election ballot alongside their respective vice presidential picks.

In the first forum, only 10 of the 15 candidates were present on June 3 at San Juan College. That forum focused entirely on the candidates' platforms regarding Navajo veterans issues. Candidates in attendance included (in the order they spoke):

  1. Buu Nygren
  2. Dineh Benally
  3. Earl L. Sombrero
  4. Emily Ellison
  5. Dr. Dolly Manson
  6. Frank Dayish Jr.
  7. Frankie Davis
  8. Greg Bigman
  9. Justin Jones
  10. Dr. Rosanna Jumbo-Fitch

Candidates that did not participate in the June 3 veterans forum include:

  • Kevin Cody
  • Sandra D. Jeff
  • Jonathan Nez
  • Leslie M. Tsosie
  • Ethel Branch

Forums are open to all presidential candidates.

Each of the remaining forums will have their own formats established by their respective host organizations. No forum is expected to have a debate-style format in which candidates are expected to provide responses and rebuttals. #
